Alicia Pille fired a no-hitter as Royse City wrapped up a perfect District 13-4A softball campaign with a 3-0 victory over Greenville on Friday at Monty Stratton Field.
Pille allowed only one baserunner, issuing a walk to Arian Alford in the first inning. Pille struck out 16 and was backed by flawless defense.
"She pitched really well," said Greenville coach Jennifer Kenner, who pitched in high school for the Lady Lions. "Best pitcher in the district."
Pille, who has committed to play at the University of Kansas, recorded most of her strikeouts with a fast riseball.
The Royse City senior also drove in two runs in the third inning with an inside-the-park homer to left field. Rachael Cook, Greenville's pitcher, hit a batter with a pitch before giving up the homer.
Cook allowed only three hits and no walks while striking out two.
Greenville also gave up an unearned run in the fourth following two throwing errors.
Greenville's infield produced some big plays. Cook made two tough catches on line shots back at the pitcher. Third baseman Chelsea Rigsby made some tough plays and first baseman Ali Threndyle snagged a low throw with a long stretch.
This game will close out the season for the Lady Lions, who were to finish their game with Texas High in Texarkana today. That game was suspended because of rain and lightning on Tuesday with the Lady Lions ahead 6-2 in the third inning. The game was also postponed on Wednesday and Thursday because of wet conditions.
The two teams were supposed to start the game over this morning in Texarkana because it didn't last the required five innings to count as a full game. But Greenville coach Jennifer Rickman said the Lady Lions will forfeit the game due to a conflict with Greenville High School's prom, which is set for tonight.
The Lady Lions will finish at 10-14 for the season and 2-0 in district play.
Royse City, which is headed to the playoffs improved to 17-7 overall and wrapped up district play at 12-0.
Royse City claimed the junior varsity game, 9-6.
