GREENVILLE -- A rally in the second set helped the Greenville Lady Lions to a 25-21, 26-24, 25-17 non-district volleyball victory over the Wills Point Lady Tigers on Tuesday.
Wills Point led 23-18 in the second set but the Lady Lions thrilled their home fans by bouncing back to win eight of the last nine points, behind the serving of Kalli Moyer and several big kills from Mayan Bloyed.
Greenville jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the opening set with Moyer serving and built an 11-4 lead before the visiting Tigers, with Destiny Spencer and Brhett Pierce serving, closed to within 13-11. The two teams battled hard the rest of the game before the Lady Lions won by four points.
Moyer, Jenny Hardaway, Bloyed and Mackenzie Cooper made big plays to help the Lady Lions in the final set.
“I love it, the three set victory,” said Greenville coach Teresa Brennan. “The girls are finally coming together as a team. We start district play Friday at Denison, My goal is to win district.”
“We came out really strong, hoping we were going to win,” said Bloyed. “We fought hard and won.”
“We came out with a bang,” said Cooper. “We put it on them in three. We will use this game as a stepping stone for our district game on Friday.”
“This game sets the tone for district,” said Hardaway. “We want to finish first in district.”
