Royse City, Greenville split

Lions capture baseball contest

Miguel Saavedra fired a one-hitter, striking out seven to lead the Greenville Lions to a 13-0 win over the Royse City Bulldogs at John Mason Field Friday in District 13-4A baseball action.

This was Greenville's fourth win in their last five games.

"Our team is really starting to come together and I'm really proud of them," said Lions coach Cody Salyers.

Saavedra also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run batted in.

Chase Wofford was 1-for-2 with three runs batted in for the Lions, Blake Taylor, Jeff Prigmore, Sawyer Harmon and Douglas Skinner all had hits for Greenville.

Skinner drove in three runs for the Lions in the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple.

Royse City's only hit came in the top of the third inning when Mitchell Venhaus tripled to center field.

Greenville is now 3-7 in District 13-4A play and had district games remaining at Denison on Friday and a home game versus Sherman on April 30.

Royse City took the junior varsity game, 16-2.
