April 16, 2011

Left-hander Rachael Cook scattered nine hits as the Greenville Lady Lions claimed a rare softball victory over Sulphur Springs by a 4-1 margin on Friday at Monty Stratton Field.

The victory is believed to be the Lady Lions' first win ever over Sulphur Springs in varsity softball.

Cook struck out two and did not walk a batter though dealing with winds gusting more than 30 mph.

"Rachael pitched a great game," said Lady Lions coach Jennifer Rickman.

Ali Threndyle led Greenville at the plate with two hits. Ashley Walden, Chelsea Rigsby, Sidney Tippit and Cook also managed hits.

Rigsby made a couple of big plays at third base and Tippit made some key defensive plays at shortstop as the Lady Lions claimed their second win in District 13-4A play.

"They played as a team," said Rickman.

Sulphur Springs dropped to 19-10-1 and 7-4.
