Mount Pleasant downs Lady Lions, 6-2

Andrea Jennings fired a two-hitter and struck out 11 while pitching Mount Pleasant to a 6-2 District 13-4A softball victory over the Greenville Lady Lions on Thursday at Monty Stratton Field.

Jennings and Chierea Havard both went 2-for-4 with a double and a single and two runs batted in to lead the Lady Tiger hitters.

Greenville picked up a run in the first inning when Rachael Cook walked, stole second and scored on Sidney Tippit's double.

The Lady Lions scored again in the fourth inning when Megan Shaw walked, stole second and scored on Cook's two-out single.

Cook took the mound loss, giving up nine hits and six runs while striking out five.

Cook was injured while sliding into home in the first inning and Ali Threndyle relieved Cook on the mount for two outs in the second. Cook then went back in and finished out the rest of the game on the mound.

Shanequia Grant and Rayla Edwards also drove in runs for the Tigers.

The Lady Lions are now 8-7 for the season, 0-4 in district play and travel to Sulphur Springs Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game with the Lady Wildcats.

Mount Pleasant is now 14-9, and 2-2.
