Lady Lions to recognize seniors at home finale
March 8, 2011
Despite their overtime shootout loss to North Lamar on Saturday, the 14-4 Greenville Lady Lions can still lock up the top spot in the District 19-4A girls soccer race with a victory over Princeton at home tonight. The Lady Lions will recognize their seniors in the home finale that starts at 6 p.m. at T.A. "Cotton" Ford Stadium.
Though they had one starter who was ill and another who was out of town, the Lady Lions battled North Lamar to a 1-1 standoff in regulation. Katelynn Twilley booted in a penalty kick with 50 seconds remaining for Greenville's goal.
North Lamar then outscored the Lady Lions 2-1 in the overtime shootout. Morgan Flippen and Marisca Escabedo scored for North Lamar in the shootout. Stephanie Luna scored Greenville's goal in the shootout.
The Lady Lions, who've already secured a playoff spot, will wrap up the regular season on Friday at Anna, an independent team that is playing most of the 19-4A girls teams since district member Commerce does not field a girls team.
The Lady Lions beat Princeton 3-0 at Princeton on Feb. 18, getting two goals from Julia Hernandez and one from Emmaline Hollingsworth. |
