Greenville teams win titles at powerlifting meet

Alfred Champion and Sheila Crowder won outstanding lifter awards to lead the Greenville Lions and Lady Lions to the two team titles on Saturday at the Greenville Invitational powerlifting meet.

Champion took the outstanding lifter award for the boys light platform (114-165) and Crowder won the outstanding lifter award for the girls heavy platform (165-220-plus).

Champion captured the 132-pound class with his total of 1,075 pounds that included best lifts of 420 in the squat, 240 in the bench press and 415 in the deadlift.

Crowder claimed the 165-pound class with her bests of 285 in the squat, 125 in the bench and 335 in the deadlift for a 745 total.

The Lions also picked up a victory from Devonte Buchanan in the 198s to outpoint Community 41-31 for the team championship. Caddo Mills was third with 21 points, followed by Forney (19), Commerce (16), South Garland (15), Boles (14), Farmersville (12), Royse City (11), Quinlan Ford (9), Mesquite Poteet (2) and Celeste (0). Buchanan lifted 520 in the squats, 270 in the bench and 455 in the deadlift for a 1,245 total.

Greenville tied Wylie 33-33 in points in the girls division but was awarded first because of a 3-2 edge in first place finishes.

Shay McMillan of Greenville won the 114-pound class (255-100-260-615) and teammate Brittany Lee Davis took the 220-plus pound class (365-175-330-870).

Royse City was third in the girls division with 18 points, followed by Community (17), Commerce (11), Boles (10), Quinlan Ford (9), Wylie East (7), Forney (7) and Caddo Mills (7).
