Maddy Crabtree's hat trick gave the Greenville Lady Lions a 3-0 District 19-4A soccer victory over Paris on Friday night at T.A. "Cotton" Ford Stadium.
Crabtree upped her season total to 15 goals with one goal in the first half and two in the second as the Lady Lions stayed undefeated in district play at 2-0. They won their fourth straight to improve to 9-3 for the season.
"The effort was there," said Lady Lions coach Ryan Dunlevy. "Congrats to Paris. They defended very, very well."
Paris goalkeeper Ali Kear, who is a freshman, turned the Lady Lions back on many promising attempts as Greenville wound up with an overwhelming advantage in shots on goal, 34-3.
"It took a team effort to win the game," said Dunlevy. "The defense, midfielders up to the forwards, goalkeeper. Everyone."
Lady Lion goalkeeper Ellen Robins recorded three saves as she finished with the shutout, Greenville's second in district play. The Lady Lions opened district play with a 5-0 win at home on Tuesday night over Sulphur Springs.
Crabtree scored her first goal with 3:58 left in the first half, taking a pass from Emmaline Hollingsworth and sending the ball into the left corner of the net. It was Hollingsworth's eighth assist of the season.
Crabtree made it 2-0 with 25:12 left off an assist from Katelyn Twilley, who recently signed a letter of intent with Troy University (Ala.).
Crabtree added a final goal, booting in a penalty kick with seven seconds remaining after getting fouled earlier in the goalkeeper's box.
Greenville has now outscored the opposition 35-7 this season.
The Lady Lions will return to district play on Monday at North Lamar, which won its district opener by a 3-0 margin over Paris.
Greenville's junior varsity lost 3-1 to the Paris JV.
