Jade Duhart pumped in 10 points, while Takia Nelson chipped in nine to lead the Texas High Lady Tigers to a 41-33 victory over Greenville on Thursday, spoiling the Lady Lions' season finale.
It was Senior Night at the Lions Den and Greenville honored Shanterria Riley and Ashley Abbott in pre-game ceremonies.
"I'm glad to see the parents come out," said Lady Lions coach Lesa Darst. "We had a good third and fourth quarter. We came out slow in the first half."
Abbott banked in 11 points to lead the Lady Lions, while Arian Alford tallied seven and Riley drained six.
The Lady Lions finished with an 8-21 overall record and 2-10 mark in district. Texas High wound up 12-18 and 5-7.
The Lady Tigers started fast, going on a 6-0 run, getting baskets from Kaitlyn Bell, Mortina Aldridge and Angel Crump. This gave Texas High a 10-4 advantage before Mackenzie Cooper sank a free throw to make it 10-5 after one quarter.
The visitors from Texarkana were just getting started as they outscored the Lady Lions 15-6 in the second quarter to lead 25-11 at halftime. Duhart, Takia Nelson, Aldridge and Crump all scored in the second quarter for the Lady Tigers.
After Texas High outscored Greenville 11-10 in the third quarter, the Lady Lions put together their best quarter of the evening, outscoring the Lady Tigers 12-5.
The Lady Lions, who trailed 41-25 with 5:51 left in the game, scored the final eight points as LaBrandi Mayberry, Riley, Cooper and Arian Alford all hit buckets or free throws in that stretch. Alford's bucket was a 3-pointer with three seconds left.
