Mount Pleasant downs Lady Lions

Margaret Speidell banked in 11 points, while Titanna Shine pumped in 10 to lead the Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers to a 49-30 victory over the Greenville Lady Lions at the Lions Den Friday night.

Aubrey Tucker chipped in 10 points to lead Greenville, while Kayla Moore added six.

Greenville fell to 8-18 overall, 2-7 in district, while Mount Pleasant raised its record to 18-10 overall, 6-4 in district.

"We just got beat tonight," said Greenville head coach Lesa Darst. "We had too many turnovers tonight. We came out flat in the second half."

Mount Pleasant scored the first six points of the game on a 3-point basket by Titanna Shine and a jumper by Margaret Speidell, followed by a Speidell free throw. Aubrey Tucker got the Lady Lions on the board with a layup with 5:36 left in the opening quarter.

The first quarter ended with the Lady Tigers on top 10-6.

Mount Pleasant then outscored Greenville 14-10 to gain a 24-16 halftime advantage.

The third quarter was the dagger for the Lady Lions, as the Lady Tigers went on a 13-0 run to start the quarter, before Tucker scored for the Lady Lions with 2:29 left in the quarter. By then it was 37-18 Mount Pleasant. The Lady Tigers outscored Greenville 15-4 in the third.

Both teams scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Ashley Abbott led the Lady Lions with 10 rebounds, while Mackenzie Cooper had five.

Shanterria Riley led Greenville in assists with four.

Estefanie Morales was the Greenville steals leader with two.

The Lions travel to Sulphur Springs on Tuesday.
