Greenville's Lady Lions got off to a fast start in the first half and then cruised to a 5-0 victory over Denison in non-district soccer on Tuesday night at T.A. "Cotton" Ford Stadium.

The Lady Lions scored all five goals in the first half as head coach Ryan Dunlevy substituted liberally in the second half.

Dunlevy said the Lady Lions' effort in the game was "incredible."

"The work ethic of these girls is awesome," he said.

The Lady Lions improved to 6-3 for the season.

"We've come leaps and bounds since the beginning," he said.

Stephanie Luna scored unassisted for the Lady Lions' first goal.

Katelynn Twilley made it 2-0 off an assist from Maddy Crabtree.

Julia Hernandez scored the Lady Lions' next two goals, one unassisted and the other off an assist from Meg Lawson.

Crabtree fired in the Lady Lions' final goal. It was unassisted.

Greenville wound up with a 17-1 advantage in shots on goals. Goalkeepers Ellen Robins and Brandy Gray combined for the shutout. Robins saved one shot.

The Lady Lions will return to action at home on Friday against Crandall. The non-district match, which is a late addition to the schedule, starts at 6 p.m. There's only a varsity contest.

Greenville's junior varsity blanked the Denison JV 2-0.

Damaris Venegas scored the Lady Lions' first goal off a corner kick.

Griselda Orsonio fired in Greenville's second goal with help from Jennifer Martinez.

Goalkeeper Jenny Hardaway recorded the shutout.
