Lady Lions fall to Sherman at home

Jayzhia Softly banked in 21 points, while Jada Bennett pumped in 17 to lead the Sherman Lady Bearcats to a 60-27 win over the Greenville Lady Lions at the Lions Den Friday night.

Aubrey Tucker chipped in 10 points for Greenville, while Ashley Abbott and Mackenzie Cooper tallied six apiece.

Sherman is 6-1 in district play, while Greenville falls to 2-5 in district.

The visitors from Sherman scored the first seven points of the game as Ashley Crockett, Jayzhia Softly and Saliesha Hunter each connected for the Lady Bearcats.

Greenville scored its first two points with 3:47 left in the first quarter as Mackenzie Cooper hit two free throws.

Sherman ended the first quarter with a 15-6 advantage.

Greenville's Lady Lions pulled to within 19-12 with 5:05 left before halftime on a LaBrandi Mayberry basket.

However, Sherman outscored the Lady Lions 18-8 in the second quarter to gain a 33-14 halftime lead. Sherman led the rest of the way.

"Sherman is leading the district and is a very aggressive team," said Greenville head coach Lesa Darst. "We just weren't able to match up with their speed and quickness. We are going to maintain our focus and prepare for Mount Pleasant next Friday."

Ashley Abbott led Greenville in rebounds with nine, followed by Mackenzie Cooper and LaBrandi Mayberry with four.

Cooper was the Greenville assists leader with four, while the blocked shots leader for the Lady Lions was Abbott with two.

LaBrandi Mayberry had two steals for the Lady Lions.
