Local high school basketball coaches, players and fans will be watching closely the next couple of days to see if travel conditions permit for scheduled games to be played.

Tonight was to be a busy night of district contests.

However, schools throughout the area called off classes on Monday because of inclement weather and most will be starting school a couple of hours late at 10 a.m. today.

Both the Greenville Lions' and Lady Lions' scheduled District 13-4A games against Texas High of Texarkana have been postponed until Wednesday because the Texarkana Independent School District called off classes for today.

The Lady Lions will travel to Texarkana for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday, varsity only.

The Lions will entertain Texas High for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday, also varsity only.

"They canceled school and when they canceled school they cancel any events associated with that school," said Lady Lions coach Lesa Darst.

Darst's daughter, the 5-9 sophomore starter Mackenzie Cooper, spent some of her free time building snowmen at her Greenville residence, with the aid of her stepfather, Wallace Darst, and a youngster from the neighborhood, Colten Cooper, the son of Greenville Lions' athletic director Chawn Cooper.

One of the snowmen was dressed with a sombrero and an American flag.
