Michael Fomby and Carl Hurndon each banked in 20 points to lead the Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers to a 57-36 victory over the Greenville Lions Tuesday in the District 13-4A opener at the Lions Den.
"We started out great with a lot of energy and confidence," said Greenville coach Marcus Smith. "When adversity hit us, we lost our confidence. We turned the ball over too much. We got to evaluate ourselves and get ready for Sulphur Springs."
Greenville started out strong as Jaquintin Patt hit a three-pointer to give Greenville a 3-0 lead. Mount Pleasant took a 4-3 lead with 6:02 left in the first quarter on a Hurndon layup.
The see-saw first quarter ended with Greenville in front, 17-16.
Greenville fell behind 19-17 in the second quarter, but Marquise Taylor's basket tied up the game at 19-19.
Mount Pleasant would go on a 13-2 scoring run, as the visiting Tigers built a 32-21 halftime advantage. Mount Pleasant then hung on for the victory.
Sawyer Harmon pumped in 10 points to lead the Lions and Shane Sellers tallied eight as Greenville fell to 4-16 for the season.
