Cooper earns newcomer honors
GHS Lady Lions honored on All-District 13-4A volleyball team

Greenville sophomore Mackenzie Cooper earned one of District 13-4A's top awards on the all-district volleyball team.
Cooper claimed the newcomer of the year award. Cooper ranked second on the team in district play for kills (75) and blocks (34) and also had 10 digs and six service aces.
Greenville seniors Emelie Kilgore and Shanterria Riley, who led the Lady Lions to an 18-17 season record and a playoff berth, earned first-team honors. Kilgore led the team in district kills (115) and blocks (48), plus had 21 digs and 15 aces. Riley finished with a team-high 208 assists in district play to go with 19 aces, 37 kills and seven digs.
Sophomores Jenny Hardaway and Maddy Crabtree represented Greenville on the second team. Hardaway finished with 43 kills and nine digs in district play and Crabtree wound up with a team-high 78 district digs, 11 kills and 19 aces.
Greenville junior Labrandi Mayberry and sophomore Maygan Bloyed were on the honorable mention list.
District champion Royse City claimed four of the top honors as sophomore Tori Green was selected as most valuable player, junior Brenna Cole was voted as top libero, senior Jennifer Null was named blocker of the year and Royse City's Robyn Hill earned coach of the year honors.
Royse City also put senior Taylor Jordan and sophomore Kyla Simmons on the first team, plus juniors Erica Poe and Celine Mendoza and sophomore Sarah Verhagen on the second team.
