Lady Lions capture home opener, 49-30

Arian Alford banked in 17 points to lead Greenville to a 49-30 victory over the Bonham Lady Warriors Tuesday in the Lady Lions' home opener.
The Lady Lions evened their record at 1-1 on the young basketball season while Bonham, coached by former Campbell assistant Gemma Gibson, dropped to 0-3.
Shanterria Riley and Lorenka Cooper pumped in six points apiece, while Peyton Gore and LaBrandi Mayberry chipped in five apiece for Greenville.
Aubrey Tucker had five steals for the Lady Lions, while Mayberry had four steals.
Ashley Abbott led Greenville with eight rebounds, while MacKenzie Cooper had seven. Kayla Moore had six for the Lady Lions, while Lorenka Cooper got five.
MacKenzie Cooper was the assists leader with eight for Greenville. Cooper also had two steals.
The Lady Lions rolled up a 13-6 lead in the first quarter. Bonham outscored Greenville 8-7 in the second quarter to close to within 20-14 by halftime.
The Lady Lions had a big third quarter to put the lead out of reach.
"Getting a win at home is good," said Lady Lions coach Lesa Darst. "The players are working hard to get ready for district play. We need to get a little more from our defensive play."
