Greenville succumbs to first-place Royse City
October 23, 2010
ROYSE CITY -- Greenville's young Lady Lions, the third place volleyball team in District 13-4A, lost to district leader Royse City on Friday, 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.
"We didn't have our middle blocker, Emelie Kilgore," noted coach Melissa Anderson after the game. "She's our leading middle blocker with 10 plus kills and five plus blocks a game. She's a senior, and we have a lot of young kids, so that was hard."
Kilgore is in California, attending the national Future Farmers of America conference.
Jenny Hardaway led in kills with four.
Ellen Robins had three kills, two digs, one block and one ace.
MacKenzie Cooper had three kills and four blocks.
The team's only other senior, Shanterria Riley, got two kills and an ace.
Meaghan Boyd got two kills and two blocks.
LaBrandi Mayberry got a kill and four blocks.
Jennifer Martinez finished with eight digs and Maddy Crabtree added seven.
On Tuesday, Greenville's freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams travel to Mount Pleasant for a 5 p.m. start.
Greenville is 7-4 in district, and 17-16 on the season.
Regardless of the Tuesday outcome, the Lady Lions will stay in third, and know they will face Longview Pine Tree out of District 14-4A to start the playoffs, at a time, date and location to be announced.
Royse City ended district play with an 11-1 district record. |
