Lady Lions beat Sherman in four games

The Greenville Lady Lions kept their hold on third place in District 13-4A volleyball with a 14-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-12 victory over Sherman on Tuesday night.
Greenville is now 16-15 overall, 6-3 in district play. Sherman falls to 3-6 in district.
Sherman jumped to a quick 13-4 lead in the first game, behind the serving of Jasmine Armijo, and the kills of Arianna Jones and Carin Hepner. The Lady Cats were never threatened in that game.
But the second game was a different story, as Greenville took control, behind blocks by Shanterria Riley and Emelie Kilgore and the serving of Riley and Maygan Bloyed.
Greenville behind the serving of Cooper, Crabtree, Riley and Kilgore jumped out to a big lead in game four, winning handily. Bloyed also hit some big serves in game four.
"In the first game we were sleeping," said Lady Lions coach Melissa Anderson. "Our passing was better in the second, third and fourth games of the match. We were very aggressive attacking tonight."
The Lady Lions, who've clinched a playoff berth, will close out the regular season at 4:30 p.m. Friday against Texas High. Following the match Greenville will recognize seniors Shanterria Riley and Emelie Kilgore.
Riley led the Lady Lions in aces against Sherman with five, followed by Maddy Crabtree with three and Ashley Walden with one.
MacKenzie Cooper was the block's leader with five, followed by Kilgore with two, Bloyed and Riley had one apiece.
Riley was the Lady Lions' assists leader with 16, following by Walden with 13.
Cooper was the kills leader with 11, followed by Kilgore with eight, Bloyed and Jenny Hardaway had three, Riley and LaBrandi Mayberry had two.
Sherman won the junior varsity volleyball match, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15.
The Lady Wildcats took the freshman match, 25-9, 25-13. |
