After taking it on the chin in three straight football games, the Greenville Lions will get Friday night off with an open date.
But it’ll be a busy Friday night for most of the other teams around the area.
The Lions have lost their three games by scores of 31-10 to Little Elm, 42-7 to Terrell and 59-14 on Thursday night to Frisco Liberty.
Liberty scored touchdowns with all eight of its possessions in the first half to build a 56-7 halftime lead. The Redhawks outgained the Lions 354-51 in the first half and recovered three Greenville fumbles.
The Lions limited their mistakes in the second half and outgained the Liberty reserves, 81-36 in total yardage in the second half.
Quarterback Jeffro Davis completed only two of 12 pass attempts but both went for touchdowns of 15 yards to Devonte Green and six yards to Shay Sellers.
Reserve Anthony Davis led the Lion rushers with 68 yards on nine carries and starter Lajorian Harris managed 45 yards on 15 rushes.
Frisco Liberty running back Jay Ajayi, who has verbally committed to Boise State, rushed for 186 yards and four carries on 12 carries though getting pulled from the game with midway through the second quarter.
Royse City’s Bulldogs get the unenviable task of playing host to the powerful Redhawks on Friday night for homecoming. Liberty is averaging 57.5 points per game. Royse City is 0-3 after falling 41-29 to I-30 rival Rockwall.
Caddo Mills, now 2-1 following a 33-6 win over Leonard, hosts Edgewood for homecoming.
Other games on tap for Friday night include Gainesville at Commerce, Community at Canton, Farmersville at Rains, Quinlan Ford at Princeton, Paris Chisum at Lone Oak, Leonard at Lindsay, Celeste at Alba-Golden, Hawkins at Cumby, Wolfe City at Howe and Arlington HIgh Point at Fannindel.
Saturday games on the schedule include McKinney Cornerstone Christian at Greenville Phoenix and Avalon at Greenville Christian. The Phoenix Firebirds will be celebrating homecoming. |
