Lady Lions split in volleyball tournament

ROYSE CITY -- Greenville’s Lady Lions went 1-1 in the silver bracket of the Royse City volleyball tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Lions lost 25-16, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22 to Irving Ranchview.
Jennifer Martinez led the Lady Lions’ defense with 16 digs. Mackenzie Cooper added nine kills and two blocks. LaBrandi Mayberry put away five kills. Ashley Walden set for 10 assists. Maygan Bloyed added eight digs, three kills and five blocks. Jenny Hardaway added three aces, nine digs and four kills. Shanterria Riley wound up with six kills and 11 assists. Emelie Kilgore managed eight kills and 12 blocks.
The Lady Lions beat Community, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-11.
Martinez again finished with 16 digs. Mayberry had four kills and 10 blocks. Cooper added 12 digs and 12 kills. Walden wound up with 11 assists. Bloyed produced 13 digs and 11 kills. Riley added four aces, 19 assists and seven kills.
The Lady Lions, now 10-11 for the season, will entertain Bonham on Tuesday with the freshman-junior varsity match starting first at 5 p.m. |
