GREENVILLE -- Mabank and Rockwall-Heath spoiled the Greenville Lady Lions’ home debut in volleyball on Tuesday, taking two victories.

Mabank beat the Lady Lions in three games, 25-22, 25-14, 25-15. That match was delayed 30 minutes by a power failure. Mabank was leading 22-17 in the first game when the lights went out in the GHS gymnasium.

The two coaches conferred and talked about continuing the match at the Greenville Middle School but the lights came back on and play continued.

Jennifer Martinez led the Lady Lions’ defense with four digs and Maddy Crabtree added three digs.

Shanterria Riley finished with three digs, four aces, 10 assists and three kills.

Ashley Walden added eight assists and one ace. Maygan Bloyed produced three blocks and three kills, while Emelie Kilgore finished with eight kills and three blocks and Mackenzie Cooper had three kills and two blocks.

Rockwall-Heath beat the Lady Lions, 25-13, 25-23, 25-17, in the final match of the evening.

“We have got to learn how to play the whole game, not just five or 10 points,” said Lady Lions coach Melissa Anderson.

The Lady Lions, now 6-5 for the season, will next head to the Royse City tournament, which starts on Thursday.

In junior varsity action, Greenville lost 25-14, 13-25, 25-6 to Mabank and 25-11, 25-11 to Rockwall-Heath.

Mabank won the freshman match, 25-18, 25-23. Rockwall-Heath defeated the Greenville ninth graders, 25-20, 25-23.
