GHS athletes honored at banquet

GREENVILLE -- State qualifier Jessica Franklin was among the honorees at the Greenville Lions athletic banquet put on Saturday night by the Lion Athletic Booster Club.

Franklin, who took third in the Class 4A long jump at the state meet, earned the girls track and field most valuable player award.

The MVP in boys track and field went to Dijoun Sheppard.

Viktoria Wolf, the District 10-4A junior varsity girls singles champion, claimed two MVP awards in tennis. Honored on the boys side were Connor Mulkey for team tennis in the fall and Skylar Pruner for spring tennis.

Julia Hernandez captured the MVP award in girls soccer.

The boys MVP award in soccer went to Ryan Wilhelm, who has signed a letter of intent with Harding University (Ark.).

Devonte Green, who ranked among the top scorers in the Metroplex, captured the boys basketball MVP award.

All-district honoree Oliva Carter captured the girls basketball MVP honor.

The golf MVP honors went to Austin Stanphill and Olivia Ash.

Brad Ratliff claimed the boys baseball MVP award.

Sidney Tippit and Rachael Cook shared the MVP award in girls softball.

Setter Morgan Bloyed, who has signed with Northern Oklahoma, captured the MVP award for volleyball.

Brittany Lee Davis claimed the girls MVP honor for powerlifting.

Quarterback Alton Dennis (offense) and linebacker Tristian Farley (defense) captured the MVP awards in football.

Chawn Cooper, the Lions’ new athletic director and head football coach, addressed the crowd in the GHS cafeteria.

“I’m excited to be back home with our athletic program,” said Cooper. “I think we have the greatest kids in the country.”

Boys soccer: newcomer of the year -- Miguel Sanchez; defensive players of the year -- Carlos Najera, Evan Snider, Emerson Flores; offensive player of the year, team MVP -- Ryan Wilhelm.

Boys basketball: MVP -- Devonte Green; scholastic award -- Cal Crabtree; defensive award -- N.J. Mason; Mr. Hustle award -- Ladarrain Green.

Boys golf: MVP -- Austin Stanphill.

Girls golf: MVP -- Olivia Ash.

Baseball: silver slugger -- Brad Ratliff; gold glove -- N.J. Mason; most improved -- Chance Rogers; newcomer of the year -- Hayden Stuart; MVP -- Brad Ratliff; Fighting Lion award -- Douglas Skinner.

Softball: Lion pride award -- Heather Hensley; most improved -- Vanessa Rico; defensive player of the year and co-MVP -- Sidney Tippit; rookie of the year -- Arian Alford; Catherine Hobbs award -- Amber Moore; offensive player of the year and co-MVP -- Rachael Cook.

Volleyball: offensive player award -- Meghan Litchfield; defensive player award -- Shanterria Riley; leadership award -- Hannah Johnson, Erika Patterson; MVP -- Morgan Bloyed.

Girls powerlifting: MVP — Brittany Lee Davis.

Boys powerlifting: Lion Pride award -- Lane White; regional qualifier -- Alford Champion; best overall lifter at regional -- Austin Martin; most improved -- Mitul Bhakta.
