Rockwall blanks Lady Lions, 10-0, in softball

GREENVILLE -- A six-run first inning propelled the Rockwall Lady Jackets to a 10-0 District 10-4A softball victory over the Greenville Lady Lions on Tuesday night at Monty Stratton Field.

Audrey Farfan slugged three doubles and drove in four runs to lead the Lady Jackets, who finished with nine hits off Greenville lefty Rachael Cook.

Laycee Holcomb also went 2-for-3 with two RBIS for Rockwall and Katy Page drove in two runs.

Rockwall pitchers Maddie Taylor and Laycee Holcomb combined on a four-hitter. The left-handed Taylor struck out four batters in three innings. Holcomb, a hard-throwing right-hander, fanned three batters in two innings.

Cook led the Greenville hitters, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Katie Threndyle and Arian Alford both managed hits for Greenville.

Greenville’s defense got several big plays, including some running catches from the outfielders for outs. Third baseman Leanah Halverson also speared a line shot for another out.

The Lady Lions dropped to 10-7-1 for the season and 2-5 in district play.

Greenville will be back in action at home on Thursday night against District 10-4A foe, Rockwall-Heath.
