Lions place third in Forney relays

FORNEY -- Dijoun Sheppard won the high jump and finished second in the triple jump to lead the Greenville Lions to third place in the team standings on Saturday at the Clay Jones Relays.

Sheppard cleared 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump and leaped 43-2 in the triple jump

Clayton of Greenville won the 800-meter run at 2:17.1.

Cobbie Johnson also claimed a pair of seconds for the Lions, clocking a 21.99 for second in the 200-meter dash and leaping 21-1/2 for second in the long jump.

Greenville scored 92 points to finish behind Waxahachie (173) and Forney (172).

Jessica Franklin claimed a first, a second and two fourths to help the Lady Lions place fifth in the girls team standings. Franklin won the long jump at 17-11 1/4, soared 36-5 for second in the triple jump clocked a time of 15.95 for fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. Franklin also anchored the Lady Lions’ 4x100-meter relay to fourth at 52.45.

The next scheduled meet for the Lions and Lady Lions is the Cotton Ford Relays set for Friday in Greenville.
