Soccer Lions shut down Commerce, 8-0

GREENVILLE -- The Greenville Lions evened their District 20-4A
soccer record at 2-2-1 with a 8-0 victory over the Commerce
Tigers on Tuesday at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.
Greenville had a 36-2 advantage in shots on goal as Lion
goalkeeper Rafael Sanchez recorded two saves.
Zak Halverson got things started for Greenville as he booted
the ball into the net from 10 yards with 31:35 left in the
first half.
Then 1:06 later Miguel Sanchez scored from about 20 yards to
put the Lions up 2-0.
Then with 18:36 left in the first half Ramon Alvarez scored on
a header. That’s how the first half ended, with Greenville up
3-0.
Freddy Ramirez, Carlos Najera (two goals), Andrew Carrillo and
Homero Pineda scored for the Lions in the second half.
Evan Snider, Andrew Carrillo and Sanchez all recorded two
assists for Greenville and Emerson Flores and Chris Gutierrez
both added one assist.
Greenville also won the junior varsity game, 7-0 over the
Commerce JV.
