Soccer Lions to host Commerce in district match

GREENVILLE -- Greenville’s soccer Lions, who took their first
District 20-4A win on Saturday over Princeton, are scheduled
to host Commerce in another district match today, weather
permitting.
Scheduled game times are at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m. for the junior
varsity and varsity matches at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.
Weather forecasts are calling for possible snow today though
clearing conditions tonight.
The Lions downed Princeton 2-1 on Saturday to up their season
record to 2-4-4 and district mark to 1-2-1.
Sophomore Omar Castillo scored the Lions’ first goal off an
assist from Ryan Wilhelm.
Wilhelm scored on an assist from senior Carlos Najera.
Greenville took 23 shots, with six on goal, while Princeton
finished with six shots. Princeton is now 1-3 in district
play.
Commerce is 0-4 in district play including losses of 6-1 to
Princeton, 7-0 to Sulphur Springs, 5-1 to Paris and 4-1 to
North Lamar.
Sulphur Springs currently leads 20-4A with a 3-0-1 record.
Paris and North Lamar are tied for second at 3-1 and
Greenville ranks fourth.
