Cooper pounds out 14 runs in win over Lady Lions

GREENVILLE -- The Cooper Lady Bulldogs pounded out 14 runs on eight hits to defeat the Greenville Lady Lions 14-10 in a softball game at Monty Stratton Field here Friday evening.

Cooper pitcher Jacie Gibson shut out the Lady Lions through the first three innings.

Meanwhile, Cooper scored six runs in the top of the third inning, helped along by several errors by the Lady Lions.

Cooper scored four more runs in the fourth to build a 10-0 lead before the Lady Lions’ offense finally got rolling.

Greenville scored two runs in each of the fourth and fifth and six in the sixth but couldn’t catch the Lady Bulldogs, who added four more runs in the top of the sixth.

Rose Sampson led Cooper at the plate with three hits.

Mariah Williams tripled and drove in two runs for Cooper and Lindsey Allen added two hits and two runs batted in.

Heather Mayes had a big night for Greenville, going 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Katie Threndyle also went 2-3 with two RBIs.

Cooper coach Jennifer Kenner is a former Greenville Lady Lions pitcher.
