Green scores 28 in Lions' win over Scots

GREENVILLE -- Devonte Green hit five 3-pointers and fired in
28 points to lead the Greenville Lions to a very big win 50-45
over the Highland Park Scots at the Lions Den Friday night.
N.J. Mason pumped in 10 for Greenville, which is now 11-14 for
the season and 4-3 in District 10-4A play, pulling the Lions
up into a tie for third place with Highland Park.
Daniel Edwards chipped in 21 points for the Scots, who dropped
to 11-11 overall.
Greenville got off to a fast start, outscoring Highland Park
17-5 to lead by that score after one quarter.
The Scots outscored Greenville 10-8 in the second quarter to
get within 25-15 at halftime.
Then in the third quarter Highland Park outscored the Lions
15-9 to close to within 34-30 after three quarters.
The game was tied three times at 39-39, 41-41, 45-45 but
Highland Park never led.
The Lions held Highland Park scoreless the final 28 seconds of
the game and were able to hit some clutch free throws at the
end of the game to get the victory.
“It was an outstanding ball game and we played as a team,”
said Greenville coach Earl Claiborne. “Our defense won the
game for us.” “This is my biggest win in Greenville in the
three years I’ve been here.”
Claiborne thanked the Greenville fans for coming out to
support the Lions.
Greenville’s next home game is on Friday against Carrollton
Newman Smith.
