Newman Smith downs Lions in district play

CARROLLTON -- Newman Smith’s defending District 10-4A champion
Trojans handed the Greenville Lions a 61-47 district loss on
Saturday.
The Trojans outscored Greenville in each of the first three
quarters to build leads of 14-6, 33-22 and 48-34.
Al Lasker and Randall Joyner, who were two all-district
football selections for the Trojans, both fired in 13 points
to lead Newman Smith. Jalil Speed added 12 points.
Byron Mack topped the Lions and all scorers with 16 points.
Devonte Green and Preston Manning both chipped in eight
points.
Greenville dropped to 8-12 for the season and 1-1 in district
play.
Newman Smith improved to 11-9 overall and 2-0 in district.
