Lady Lions open season with win

SULPHUR SPRINGS -- Greenville’s Lady Lions opened their 2009-10 basketball season with a 47-39 pasting of Sulphur Springs on Tuesday night.

Returning first-team all-district selection Olivia Carter pumped in 16 points to lead the Lady Lions and also pulled down six rebounds.

Freshman Maddy Crabtree, in her first varsity game, produced 13 points, eight rebounds and nine steals for the Lady Lions.

Megan Humphrey fired in 17 points to spark Sulphur Springs, which also picked up 13 from Kayla Phillips.

Greenville returns to action at home on Friday against Commerce with only a varsity game that starts at 6 p.m.

G: Olivia Carter 16, Maddy Crabtree 13, K’arra Davis 6, Shanterria Riley 5, Peyton Gore 3, Sha’Kia Whetstone 2, Aubrey Tucker 1.

SS: Megan Humphrey 17, Kayla Phillips 13.

Records: G 1-0, SS 0-1.

Next game: Commerce at Greenville, 6 p.m. Friday.
