Lady Lions rally to beat Royse City

GREENVILLE -- The Greenville Lady Lions rallied from a 2-1
deficit in games to defeat Royse City Lady Bulldogs, 25-7,
23-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-11, in District 10-4A volleyball here
Tuesday night.
“We fought hard and never gave up,” said Greenville senior
Morgan Bloyed.
The Lady Lions had little trouble in the first game as Meghan
Litchfield served for six straight points and freshman Maddie
Crabtree served for five. Morgan Bloyed closed out the opening
game for the Lady Lions.
In the second game of the match it was a different story as
the Lady Bulldogs led pretty much the whole way. The Lady
Lions closed to within 21-19 but Royse City held on for the
win.
The lead in game three went back and forth. However, the Lady
Bulldogs produced points when it mattered as they took a 25-22
decision.
Greenville got back on track to win games four and five.
“Making our serves and communication between our players was
key to our five game win,” said Litchfield.
Litchfield led the Lady Lions with 17 kills and Hannah Johnson
added 10 kills.
Morgan Bloyed paced Greenville in assists with 42 assists.
Ashley Abbott topped Greenville in blocks with seven, Morgan
Bloyed had five and Emelie Kilgore tallied three.
“We made a lot of mistakes in games two and three, but we
corrected them in games four and five,” said Lady Lions coach
JoAnna Vaden.
“We must have faith in each other,” said Lady Lion player
Hannah Johnson.
Amanda Boudreaux led Royse City in assists with 16, while
Minkindzi Shanks had 13.
Boudreaux topped Royse City in aces with three, while Kyla
Simmons served for two aces.
Taylor Jordan paced Royse CIty in kills with with 8, Simmons
and Boudreaux both had seven, Jennifer Null had five, Erica
Poe finished with four and Tori Green added three.
Brenna Cole led Royse City with 19 digs, Simmons had 18,
Boudreaux 15, Jayci Nelson 10 and Camille Flores eight.
Vaden encouraged Lion fans to attend Friday’s home game
against Rockwall.
“We want to Jam this Gym Friday night when we take on
Rockwall,” she said.
