Lady Lions bounce back in doubleheader

GREENVILLE -- After losing a tough five-game match to Wills Point, the Greenville Lady Lions volleyball team bounced back in a big way to defeat Sulphur Springs in straight games, 25-22, 25-14, 25-14, here Tuesday night.

Emelie Kilgore led the Lady Lions against Sulphur Springs with 11 kills, T.J. Holmes and Maygan Bloyed both had nine, followed by Ashley Abbott with seven, Morgan Bloyed with six and Meghan Litchfield with three.

In the digs department Litchfield led with seven, Hannah Johnson had five and Shanterria Riley added four.

Wills Point survived three match points to take the first match over Greenville, 16-25, 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 15-12. Greenville had Wills Point down 24-21 in game four but could not put the Lady Tigers away as they won the next five points.

Litchfield led the Lady Lions in kills against Wills Point with 13, while Maygan Bloyed and Kilore both tallied seven, Hannah Johnson had six, Abbott four and Riley two.

Morgan Bloyed led Greenville in assists against Wills Point with 34.

In the digs department, Riley led with 11, Litchfield and Johnson both had seven.

Greenville’s junior varsity lost 25-16, 25-23 to Wills Point and 25-17, 25-10 to Sulphur Springs.

The Lady Lions’ freshmen beat Wills Point, 28-26, 25-17, and Sulphur Springs, 25-18, 25-15.

The Lady Lions will open District 10-4A play on Friday afternoon at Richardson Pearce, which is No. 1 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s latest state rankings.
