GREENVILLE -- The Greenville Lady Lions dropped a tough
volleyball match to the Terrell Lady Tigers during Friday’s
home opener, 25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-16.
Senior Morgan Bloyed set for 21 assists and put away two kills
to lead the Lady Lions.
Freshman Maygan Bloyed, who was just called up for the varsity
on Friday, put away seven kills for Greenville, while Hannah
Johnson added one kill.
Emelie Kilgore also finished with seven blocks and seven
kills, while Ashley Abbott added five blocks and three kills
and Meghan Litchfield put away five kills for Greenville,
which fell to 0-3 on the season.
The Lady Tigers started fast in the first game, grabbing a
14-9 lead. However Greenville battled back to get within one
point three times at 20-19, 21-20, and 22-21 before the Lady
Tigers closed out the first game.
In the second game the visiting Lady Tigers jumped out to a
24-14 lead. Greenville scored three straight points to make it
24-17 before Terrell closed out game two.
Game three was pretty much all Greenville as the Lady Lions
behind the Bloyed sisters Maygan and Morgan put together their
strongest game of the match. Abbott and Litchfield along with
Kilgore helped the Lady Lions get on track as they won Game
three 25-18.
But in Game four the visitors came out smoking, grabbing a
14-4 lead and pretty much put the match away. Greenville was
to mount one last comeback, but to no avail.
In junior varsity action the Greenville Lady Lions were
victorious, 27-25, 25-19.
Chandler Smith managed five assists, two kills, one block and
three aces for the Lady Lions. Ashleigh Hall produced two
assists and three kills for the Greenville JV, while LaBrandi
Mayberry added five kills and a block, Nancy Gilchrist served
for four aces and Jennifer Martinez added one assist and two
aces.
Greenville claimed the two freshman matches, 25-15, 25-16 in
the A match, and 25-18, 25-13 in the B contest.
