District 10-4A golf results

ROWLETT -- Two juniors and a freshman gained some experience on Thursday that Greenville golf coach Lee Leonard hopes will pay off next season.

Junior Olivia Ash, freshman Jennifer Bond and junior Lexie Dick were the only three Lady Lions to finish the District 10-4A 36-hole girls tournament at the Waterview Golf Club. Ash led the trio with rounds of 133 and 125 for a 258 total to finish 49th among the district’s golfers. Bond shot scores of 133 and 137 for a 270 to place 51st and Dick was 53rd with her total of 272 that included rounds of 133 on Wednesday and 139 on Thursday.

Greenville junior Jessica Hunt, who opened with a 154 on Wednesday, retired after nine holes due to injury, according to Leonard. Thus the Lady Lions didn’t have the required four golfers to figure in the team standings.

Perennial power Highland Park won the tournament with its A team, shooting rounds of 317 and 327 for a 644 team score. Rockwall A was second at 700 (339-361) and Highland Park B finished third with a 716 (348-368).

Highland Park’s A team went one-two-three in the medalist race with Clair Straty (77-77-154), Callie Scheffler (79-78-157) and Steffi Scholer (81-82-163).

Royse City wound up eighth after shooting rounds of 452 and 464 for a 916 total. Tayler Young (107-101-208) finished 33rd to lead the Lady Bulldogs.

The top two teams and medalists will advance to the Region II-4A tournament at Robson Ranch near Denton.

The boys District 10-4A tourney is set Wednesday and Thursday, also at Waterview.
