GREENVILLE -- Greenville’s scoring drought in District 10-4A
softball continued as Highland Park blanked the Lady Lions 4-0
on Tuesday at Monty Stratton Field.
The Lady Lions, who managed only two hits off Highland Park
right-hander Kat Robinson, have now gone scoreless over their
last four district games.
Rachael Cook singled for the Lady Lions with two outs in the
third inning and stole second base but was left stranded when
Robinson struck out the next batter.
Danielle Cook, Rachael’s older sister, tripled down the left
field line with two outs in the seventh. Again, Robinson ended
that threat with a strikeout to end the game with 10 Ks.
Robinson walked two.
Highland Park produced six hits off Greenville’s freshman
lefty Rachael Cook, who struck out four and walked none.
Dabney Rice put Highland Park on the scoreboard in the fourth
with a two-run double to drive in Elena Dennis (single) and
Tasha Alagnani (single).
Dennis started a two-run sixth for Highland Park by reaching
on an infield hit and taking second on a throwing error.
Dennis moved up to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on
another throwing error. Robinson, who reached on the throwing
error, scored on a wild pitch.
Highland Park avenged a 5-4 loss suffered earlier this season
to Greenville by improving its district record to 2-7, the
same mark for the Lady Lions.
Catcher Shelby Doederlein made a tough catch on a foul ball to
spark the Lady Lions’ defense and Cook, the pitcher, also
turned a double play.
