Greenville's Franklin shines at Friday's Cotton Ford Relays

GREENVILLE -- The TA Cotton Ford track meet was a success for
the Greenville High School varsity boys and varsity girls
track squads Friday at Cotton Ford Stadium.
The Greenville girls team finished first with 195 points,
followed by Forney which had 167 points. Paris High School
finished third with 57 points.
The Greenville boys team had a team total of 134.66 which was
just behind first place Forney, which had 188 points. Sachse
High School finished third with 114.33 points.
For Greenville, Jessica Franklin was a big winner as she
finished first in the long jump with a jump of 17-10. Franklin
also finished first in the triple jump with a 39-2&1/2 total.
Franklin also took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a
time of 14.93. And finally, Franklin was a first-place winner
in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.30.
Coach JoAnna Vaden of Greenville said, “We ended up getting
first place with our varsity girls track team, and the junior
varsity team got second place in the meet. I was proud that
every girl got personal records in their event.”
Dujoun Shepard of Greenville boys team, finished first in the
300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.36. Sheppard also finished
third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.08. Shepard,
Dominique Mitchel of Greenville and Leshaun Murphy of Sachse
High School finished third in the high jump, each with
5-06.00.
“My team ran hard,” coach Ivory Dillard said. “Colby Johnson
had a 10.7 in the 100-meter dash and a 22.3 in the 200-meter
dash. I was proud of my team.”
The Greenville junior varsity boys finished third in their
division with 76 points, while the Greenville junior varsity
girls finished second in their division with 89 points. The
winning team in the JV girls division was Forney High School
with 265 points. In the JV boys division Sachse High School
won with 213 points, while Forney took second place with 190
points.
