McKINNEY -- McKinney’s Lionettes rolled to a 6-0 victory over the Greenville Lady Lions in a Class 4A area soccer playoff match on Tuesday night at McKinney High School.

The Lionettes, now 16-1-2 for the season, will advance to the sectional round while the Lady Lions finished at 10-6-4.

“McKinney was just strong and they were solid,” said Lady Lions coach Ron Beck. “We started out and we played a really, really strong game for 25 minutes.”

McKinney then exploited a lapse on defense and kept scoring to put the lead out of reach.

“It was a rough game,” said Beck. “They (the Lady Lions) tried. They didn’t roll over and quit.”

Beck said some of the Lady Lions were “shellshocked” before the game.

The shutout was McKinney’s 15th of the season. The Lionettes outscored their District 17-4A opponents by a 57-1 margin on the way to the district championship.

“McKinney is stronger than they were last year,” he said.

Beck said the Lady Lions can build on the Lady Lions’ success achieved this season.

“I’m looking for each year to get better because we have a very young team,” he said.
