Lady Lions beat R.L. Turner in softball

GREENVILLE -- Behind the pitching of Rachael Cook and the hitting of Trinity Ashmore and Katie Threndyle, the Greenville Lady Lions defeated R.L. Turner 10-8 in District 10-4A softball at Monty Stratton Field on Tuesday night.

Cook gave up eight runs, but only five of them were earned. Cook walked two and struck out five.

Meanwhile, Ashmore and Threndyle both drove in three runs as the Lady Lions improved to 2-3 in district play.

The visitors from Carrollton jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning, only to have Greenville answer with three runs in the bottom of the first.

After a three-run second put R.L. Turner back in front, the Lady Lions countered in the bottom of the third with two runs.

Turner then scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go up 8-5.

Greenville however saved its best for last, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and sending eight batters to the plate.

Ashmore and Threndyle both went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Lions. Amber Moore also collected two hits for Greenville. Hayley Ellis, Shelby Doederlein and Dani Cook had one hit each.
