Carter makes all-district first team in girls' basketball

Olivia Carter was nearly an unstoppable inside force this basketball season for the Greenville Lady Lions.

Carter, who averaged 19.6 points per game in district play, earned first-team honors in District 10-4A. She was the only Greenville player selected to the first team in a vote of the district’s coaches.

Carter scored in double digits in all but one of the Lady Lions’ 14 district games. The junior pumped in a career-high 41 points against Richardson Pearce, plus scored 36 against R.L. Turner, 26 against Royse City and 25 versus Rockwall-Heath.

Greenville’s Jessica Franklin and Rocio Medrano also earned second-team honors.

Franklin, a junior, averaged 8.6 points in district and was one of 10-4A’s top defensive players, usually guarding the opponent’s top scorer.

Medrano, who’s a senior, averaged 14.8 points in district play, scoring in double digits in 10 district games. She scored a season-high 34 points against R.L. Turner and also rang up 27 against Pearce and 22 versus Rockwall-Heath.

Rockwall’s deadly 3-pointer shooter Peyton Adamson earned the most valuable player award after leading the Lady Jackets to the 10-4A title.

Newman Smith’s senior blue-chip post Kim Nezianya was named the offensive player of the year.

The defensive player of the year award went to Royse City’s speedy senior Raven Alexander.

Rockwall freshman Alyssa Lang captured the newcomer of the year award and the coach of the year honor went to Rockwall’s Jill McDill.

Royse City also put senior Kellie Wyrick and freshman Tayler Young on the first team and senior Taylor Howard on the second team.
