Royse City pitcher quiets Lady Lions' bats

GREENVILLE -- Alicia Pille struck out 17 and limited
Greenville to only two hits during Royse City’s 7-1 district
softball victory on Tuesday at Monty Stratton Field.
Pille did not walk a batter but hit two with pitches.
Royse City capitalized on 10 hits and four Greenville errors
to score single runs in the first, second and fourth innings
and two runs in the third and fifth.
Greenville’s freshman left-hander Rachael Cook allowed only
three earned runs. She walked three and struck out two.
Greenville dropped to 1-3 in District play 10-4A after also
splitting two games on Monday. The Lady Lions beat Highland
Park 5-4 on Monday and lost 7-5 to Newman Smith of Carrollton.
Royse City, now 1-1 in district play, is scheduled to
entertain Richardson Pearce in a makeup game at 5 p.m. today.
Dezy Arredondo paced Royse City at the plate with two hits and
a run batted in. Shelby Pille, Shelbi Bane, Alicia Pille,
Ashley Heinaman, Julia Zielinski, Camille Flores, Kourtney
Kelley and Marcy Quarrels also hit safely for Royse City.
Shanterria Riley scored Greenville’s only run in the third
after getting hit by a pitch. Riley stole second and third and
then dashed home on a wild pitch.
Riley broke up Pille’s no-hit bid as she singled just over the
glove of second baseman Heinaman with two outs in the fifth.
Trinity Ashmore also singled for Greenville in the sixth.
Bane scored Royse City’s first run in the first. Bain beat out
an infield hit, stole second and took third on a wild pitch
before Arredondo delivered an RBI single.
Kelley scored in the second after reaching on a walk and
advancing on a wild pitch. She scored on Shelby Pille’s
single.
Royse City rang up two runs in the third as Arredondo singled,
Heinaman reached on a throwing error that allowed a run to
score and Flores ripped an RBI single.
Heinaman singled in the fifth, scoring on a ground-out.
Royse City loaded the bases twice in the sixth, scoring off
two errors, a couple of fielder’s choices and Alicia Pille’s
single.
