North Lamar rallies over Lady Lions to claim shootout

GREENVILLE -- North Lamar rallied from a 1-0 deficit to tie Greenville 1-1 and then outscored the Lady Lions 2-0 in an overtime shootout on Friday night at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.

Julie Hernandez got Greenville off to a fast start, scoring with 37:49 left in the opening half to put Greenville up 1-0. Maci Bradford assisted on the goal.

Raykeisha McFrazier scored the equalizing goal with 14:51 to go in the second half to tie the game for the Pantherettes.

The game ended tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and the teams went to penalty kicks to decide it in a shootout.

Bailey Phillips took the first shot for Greenville and North Lamar goalkeeper Shelby Sansom made the save.

Then Erin McGregor of North Lamar scored.

Next to shoot for Greenville was goalkeeper Lupe Alvarez, whose shot hit the top of the crossbar and bounced away.

North Lamar’s next shooter also hit the crossbar with her shot.

Then Katelynn Twilley’s shot was saved by Sansom, keeping North Lamar up 1-0 in the shootout.

Cindy Rangel sent her shot past Alvarez for North Lamar’s second goal in the extra session.

Julie Hernandez of Greenville sent her shot wide as the contest ended.

Greenville dropped to 5-1-1 in district play.

The junior varsity game wound up in a 1-1 tie. Meg Lawson scored Greenville’s goal.
