Mustangs down Lions, 68-46, in district play

GREENVILLE -- Chris Bowie banked in 14 points while Cole
Holland and Brooks Vehslage each pumped in 11 to lead the
Richardson Pearce Mustangs to a 68-46 win over the Greenville
Lions at the Lions Den Friday night.
With the victory Pearce goes to 12-15 on the season and 8-3 in
District 10-4A, while Greenville drops to 6-20 and 2-9.
Pearce outscored the Lions in every quarter but the last one.
By then the outcome had already been decided.
Jarel Nelson chipped in 19 points for Greenville to lead all
scorers. Aaron Johnson also tallied nine points for the Lions.
Bruce Smith scored first for Pearce on a jumper from the
corner and Cole Holland hit one of two free throws to make it
3-0 Pearce.
Cal Crabtree answered with a layup for Greenville and Nelson
followed with a three-pointer to give Greenville its only lead
of the night at 5-3.
Pearce outscored Greenville 14-4 the rest of the first quarter
to grab a 17-9 lead.
Holland, Vehslage, Jake Allen, along with Bowie hit shots from
all over in the second quarter as the first half ended with
J.J. Pearce holding a 41-26 lead.
The third quarter would be another Mustang quarter as they
outscored Greenville 16-11 to grab a 57-35 advantage.
Greenville went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter, to
get within 57-44 with 5:05 left in the game.
But the visitors from Richardson answered with their own 10-0
scoring run to close out the game.
