GREENVILLE -- Katelynn Twilley scored two goals in the first half to help the Greenville Lady Lions to a 3-2 non-district soccer victory over Denison on Tuesday night at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.

Twilley’s unassisted goals gave the Lady Lions a 2-0 halftime lead.

Maci Bradford also scored with 36 minutes left to put Greenville up 3-0.

Denison rallied with two goals but could not catch the Lady Lions, who upped their season record to 4-5-1.

“This is the best I’ve seen them play,” said Lady Lions coach Ron Beck. “I saw girls tonight step up and show what they can do. It was beautiful. That Greenville team we showed tonight can go a long ways.”

Beck credited the play of defender Brenda Hernandez, who held Denison’s high-scoring forward Allie Strang without a goal.

“We played a strong team, a fast team, a team that was bigger than us and we out played them,” said Beck.

Greenville’s junior varsity beat the Denison juniors 1-0 on a goal by Meg Lawson that was assisted by Chandler Hill.

Greenville JV goalkeeper Samantha Green saved three shots on the way to the shutout.
