Greenville girls top Highland Park, 46-40
January 24, 2009

Greenville’s Lady Lions did not disappoint the hometown faithful who made their way into the Lions Den on “Jam the Gym” night on Friday.

Rocio Medrano pumped in 23 points, Olivia Carter banked in 15 and Jessica Franklin added 13 to lead the Lady Lions to a 46-40 victory over the Highland Park Scots.

The win lifts the Lady Lions in a tie for third place with Highland Park in the District 10 4A standings with 5-4 records.

Highland Park started strong in the first quarter as Stephanie Dekkers hit two 3-point shots. Dekker finished with a team-high 16 points for the Lady Scots. After one it was 15-14 in favor of the Lady Scots.

But in the second quarter it was a whole different story as the Lady Lions went on a 8-0 run. Not only that but Highland Park did not score until Katherine Krause hit two free throws with two minutes left in the first half.

Greenville ended up outscoring the Scots 11-4 to grab a 25-19 halftime lead.

The Lady Lions stretched their lead to 39-29 after three quarters.

However, the Scots would not go down without a fight. Dekkers canned another 3-point basket. Then Amy Eckeberger hit two free throws and just like that it was 39--33.

But thanks to Medrano and Carter the Lady Lions would not be denied as both hit big buckets and free throws down the stretch to keep the Scots at bay.
