Greenville Lady Lions lost 2-1 to Sherman in an overtime shootout in the consolation finals of the Lucas Lovejoy soccer tournament on Saturday.

Katelynn Twilley sent the game into overtime when she tied the game at 1-1 with a penalty kick for Greenville.

Greenville player Julie Hernandez drew a hard foul in the goalkeeper box, which brought about the penalty kick and caused Hernandez to be taken by ambulance to a Plano hospital, according to Greenville coach Ron Beck. Beck said Hernandez was treated and released by the hospital.

West Mesquite blanked the Lady Lions 1-0 earlier on Saturday in pool play, sending the Lady Lions to the consolation bracket.

Beck complimented the Lady Lions on their effort in the tournament and on their team unity. He said the players asked to be bused to the hospital to check on their injured teammate.

The Lady Lions dropped to 2-4-2 for the season.

They will play again Tuesday at Mabank in a varsity only contest that starts at 5:30 p.m.
