With their team off on Tuesday, Greenville Lady Lions
basketball coach Dave Sanders and his assistant coach Josh
Colvert spent some time on Monday studying a game tape of
Rockwall.
When asked if he’d spotted any weaknesses of the No. 13
state-ranked Lady Jackets Sanders said, “Not many.”
Sanders and Colvert hope that something they spotted on the
game tape will help the Lady Lions pull off an unprecedented
feat tonight: hand the 16-9 Lady Jackets a District 10-4A
loss.
Scheduled game times are at 6 and 7:30 p.m. for the junior
varsity and varsity contests in Rockwall.
The Lions, coached by Earl Claiborne, will play host to the
Rockwall Jackets at about 7:30 in the Lions Den. That game
follows the 4:30 p.m. freshman contest and 6 p.m. junior
varsity match.
Rockwall’s been one of the top girls basketball programs in
the Metroplex over the past five seasons with four straight
trips to the regional tournament plus a 5A state championship
and a 40-0 record during the 2006-7 season. The Lady Jackets
went more than four years without losing a home game.
The Lady Jackets are alone in first place in the 10-4A
standings at 6-0. Royse City ranks second at 5-1 while
Greenville is in a four-way tie for third place with Highland
Park, Rockwall-Heath and Newman Smith, all at 3-3.
Greenville won its last outing 62-41 over Richardson Pearce on
Friday night, collecting a career-high 41 points from Olivia
Carter. Jessica Franklin also scored 11 points in that game
and Rocio Medrano added seven.
Rockwall won its last game 65-49 over Highland Park as Peyton
Adamson fired in 36 points and Alyssa Lang added 11. Adamson
rank among the top scorers in the Metroplex at 27.3 points per
game but she is the only Rockwall player averaging in double
digits. Adamson also fired in 41 points during Rockwall’s
recent win over Newman Smith.
Greenville’s Lions are tied with Rockwall, Royse City and
Rockwall-Heath for fourth place in the 10-4A standings at 1-3.
No. 2 state-ranked Newman Smith is tied with Highland Park for
the district lead at 4-0. Richardson Pearce is third with a
3-1 district record.
The Lions dropped their last game to Richardson Pearce, 74-50.
Corey Bosworth pumped in 23 points to lead the Lions while
Ladarrian Green added eight points.
Rockwall lost its last game 54-46 to Highland Park. Kyle
Sandlin paced Rockwall with 18 points and Hunter Jorgensen
added 11. |
