GREENVILLE -- The Greenville Lady Lions evened their
basketball record at 2-2 with a 38-35 win over South Garland
in a nailbiter on Friday night at the Lions Den.
Myneshia Crow hit a bucket and later a free throw in the final
35 seconds to seal the victory. South Garland inbounded the
ball in the final seconds but could not get off a shot against
a hustling Lady Lion defense.
The Lady Lions got off to fast start. Jessica Franklin scored
four of her 12 points in the first quarter to lead a 7-0
Greenville scoring run.
The run was finally stopped by South Garland’s Jenna Littleton
on a driving layup with three seconds to go in the first
quarter.
After one quarter it was 9-4 in favor of Greenville.
But South Garland refused to go quietly, outscoring the Lady
Lions 14-7 in the second quarter to grab an 18-16 lead at
halftime.
Then in the third quarter the momentum switched back in favor
of the Lady Lions as they outscored the Lady Colonels 10-2.
The Lions had an 8-0 run to end the third quarter.
The Colonels outscored the Lions 15-12 in the fourth quarter
but it was the Greenville girls that had the last say in this
one. After the visiting Colonels took a 33-30 lead, Greenville
scored five in a row to grab a 35-33 lead.
Then after an Ebony Moss basket tied the game at 35-35, Crow
scored three of her eight points to win the game for the Lady
Lions.
Olivia Carter also scored 12 points for Greenville.
Greenville plays at Sulphur Springs on Monday.
South Garland drops to 2-4 on the year.
