GREENVILLE -- Highland Park’s No. 6 state-ranked Scots
finished District 10-4A volleyball play with a 25-9, 25-10,
25-15 victory over the Greenville Lady Lions on Tuesday.
The 32-6 Scots will advance to the playoffs as the runner-up
team in District 10-4A with a 12-2 record.
The Lady Lions finished the season with a 2-12 district
record.
Greenville coach JoAnna Vaden said the Lady Lions gave their
best effort against Highland Park.
“They never gave up in any of the games,” she said.
She said it would have been easy for the Lady Lions to give up
against a state-ranked team.
“I told them they need to leave every ounce of themselves on
the court and they did,” she said.
The Lady Lions were backed by a boisterous home crowd that
even performed a short version of “The Wave” in the stands.
Morgan Bloyed led the Lady Lions with five kills while Sarah
Tankersley added three kills.
Meghan Litchfield served for two aces to lead Greenville in
that department.
Highland Park claimed the junior varsity match, 25-10, 25-11,
and the freshman contest, 25-11, 25-10.
