Lady Lion spikers take two at home

GREENVILLE -- The Greenville High School Lady Lions volleyball team ran its record to 6-7 with two victories Tuesday night at the Lions Den.

The Lady Lions first defeated the Mabank Lady Panthers, 25-27, 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9. In this match the Lady Lions got strong play from Quincy Watson, who had 22 assists. The Lady Lions also got stellar play from Morgan Bloyed, who had 13 assists, nine kills and four blocks. Meghan Litchfield had two kills and two blocks for Greenville. Sarah Tankersley had four kills and four digs in the contest. Emelie Kilgore had two kills and three blocks for the Lady Lions. Jessica Franklin also finished with seven kills and four blocks.

Yariza Castillo, the Lady Lions’ libero, had three digs and Bethany Ellsworth had five digs.

In the second match of the evening, Mabank defeated the Caddo Mills Lady Foxes, 25-13, 25-18, 25-17. Coach Stacy Shelton of Mabank was no doubt happy to get this win after losing to Greenville in the opening match.

However, Mabank player Whitney Evans was injured and had to be carted off the gym floor by the paramedics. No word on her condition as of yet.

Now for the third match of the evening, Greenville’s Lady Lions had it all going right as they defeated Caddo Mills in straight sets, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.

Coach JoAnna Vaden and assistant coach Marilyn Jones were happy as can be to get this win over Caddo Mills. This got the Lady Lions to 6-7 overall.

Morgan Bloyed had four assists, one block and eight kills for the Lady Lions. Emelie Kilgore managed five kills, four blocks and three block assists.

Quincy Watson added 10 assists, Meghan Litchfield had two kills and Jessica Franklin chipped in three kills.

The Lady Foxes dropped to 9-8 for the season.
