DALLAS -- As expected, the Greenville High School tennis team went through a learning experience at the District 10-4A tournament on Thursday.

Most of the Lions and Lady Lions bowed out in the first round as Greenville faced some tough competition.

“We’re in a pretty tough district,” said Lions coach Don Johnson before the tournament. “This bunch all the way through has some strong players.”

Johnson told the Lions and Lady Lions before the tournament that it didn’t matter what the draw was, they’d have to face some tough opponents eventually.

Boys singles player Skylar Pruner and the boys doubles team of Trent Jones and Ethan Uselton were the only GHS players to survived the opening round.

Pruner downed Chandler Dear of West Mesquite, 6-1, 6-2, before falling 6-1, 6-1 to Frajkor of Mesquite Poteet.

Jones and Uselton outlasted Stone and Burden of Terrell, 5-7, 6-0, 6-0, before dropping a 6-1, 6-0 match to the No. 1 seeds, Overlin and Davis of Highland Park.

Lisa Malone and Emelie Kilgore of Greenville lost to the No. 1 seeded team in girls doubles, Leitch and Stainback, 6-0, 6-0.

Abby Potts and Rae Arnold of Greenville also fell 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 to Martinez and Perez of Terrell.

Logan Marcom and Spencer Harmon of Greenville lost their doubles match to the No. 4 seeds, Schoeber and Reynolds of Highland Park, 6-1, 6-0.

Andrew Harrison of Greenville fell to the No. 4 seed in boys singles, Billy Lyng from Mesquite Poteet, 6-0, 6-0.

Katie Kimberlin of Greenville dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Foster of Rockwall-Heath in girls singles.

Olivia Lofton also fell by the same 6-0, 6-1 count to Kumar from Rockwall-Heath.

Ryan Ross and Tess Knudson of Greenville lost their mixed doubles match, 6-0, 6-0, to Collins and Reynolds of Highland Park.

Raheel Ata and Christina Boshart from Greenville fell 6-0, 6-0 to Smith and Walton of Rockwall-Heath.

Highland Park, a member of Greenville’s district, has won state titles in team tennis and in singles and doubles events in the spring.

Richardson Pearce has claimed three straight state titles in boys doubles.
